Sunday Power Sewing and Stash Busting – New Look 6838

Hello all,

Down in my sewing room, I have three Rubbermaid totes full of fabric along with several bags of additional yardage piled on top, tucked in to drawers and hanging in closets.  Now, I know that some of you will read that and say “Pfft…what a Rookie!” however the disorganization of it is what is bothering me, more than the quantity.  I stopped myself from going out to buy an additional tote with the intent that I am going to figure out a better system.  Please feel free to let me know of any ideas you may have.

McCalls 3830 – Wardrobe Builder

Hello all,

One key area of focus for me this year is wardrobe building by adding some basics to my closet.  My description of basics means sewing classic, stylish patterns which will integrate well with each other or with other pieces that I already have.  This isn’t about trends or fads; rather it is about having garments that can be worn confidently for years to come and ones that I can mix and match.

Such is the case with McCalls 3830 which is a pattern for a basic straight skirt with several length options as seen here:

One thing that I know for sure about my clothing habits is that I lean toward solid colours.  I’m not sure why that is.  Perhaps a deep rooted desire for neatness and organization in life.  A girl can dream…

I am in need of some basics; pieces that can be mixed and matched easily with other items in my closet.  That said, my first entry in my RTW fast fit the bill quite nicely.  I chose New Look 6838 and I made view A.
