Some New Online Friends and V9183

Hello all, I happened upon a lovely group of inspirational sewing folks via my Facebook feed earlier this summer.  The focus of this group is to work through a defined list of sewing patterns with the intent of sharing tips, hints, ideas and creative comradery.  A new pattern is selected each month and as the members complete theirs, they post their thoughts on fabric selection, alterations and progress pictures with the end result of showing their completed garment.  You can jump in and do one challenge, or all of them – it is entirely up to you. It is always amazing to me that with social media we have such a wonderful way of connecting…

Vogue 9154 Misses Skirt Is A Winner

Hello all, I have seen a few renditions of Vogue 9154 on Sewing Pattern Review and have had the pattern for a few months now.  Last weekend, as it was cold and rainy, I tucked myself in my sewing room and made this skirt with some navy wool that had been purchased last season.   I truly could not be happier with the result. Here is the pattern envelope picture for Vogue 9154.  I made View A.

Butterick 6016 – A Feminine Dress Without Fuss

Hello all, What a glorious summer we have been having here in Southwestern Ontario.  I have spent way more time lazing about in my floaty chair than I have in the sewing room, to be sure! But we have a wedding that we will soon be attending and a new dress is in order.  With temperatures upwards of 30 degrees (that is 85+ for my American friends) I need something that is appropriate for the occasion, while allowing me to keep cool.  B6016 is just the ticket.  Here is the envelope picture and line drawing:

In Progress – Spring Pops of Colour

Hello all, I have spent the last week or so head down in home decor sewing, making new table linens for a dear friend and a valance for our master bedroom window.  In years past, I would dread that kind of sewing as it is just…rectangles.  Now however, I find that every now and then there is something very soothing in a few hours of mindless, straight line sewing and pressing.  Without fittings, darts, pleats or tucks, the end result is a neatly folded stack of quickly completed projects which is always a very satisfying accomplishment.

McCalls 7332 – The Boyfriend Jacket

Hello all, Our weather has been teasing us with some above freezing temperatures and rain instead of snow for the last couple of weeks.  In the hopes that we are looking at winter in the rear view mirror, I am turning my sewing attention to lighter weight layers.  One thing in particular that I need to add are jackets for spring. A few hours of this weekend were spent making a start on that goal with McCalls 7332. I bought the pattern a few weeks ago along with some lightweight navy wool from my local Fabricland.  Here is the picture from the pattern envelope:

Style Arc Italia Shirtdress – The Finished Dress

Hello all, I was hoping to take some pictures outside now that the weather is starting to warm up but it is quite dreary and rainy here today.  That is not a complaint, mind you.  This time last year we still had quite a bit of snow on the ground to the extent that you could not see the pool in the backyard.  Today however, there is no snow, and the water that has accumulated on top of the pool’s winter cover is completely fluid.  Usually, it is iced over until early April.  We have had mild winters like this before but they are a rare event indeed. Here is…
