Vogue 8825 – All Wrapped Up
Hello all,
After a very trying week, I spent a couple of self indulgent days in my sewing room working on Vogue 8825.
I purchased this pattern a number of months ago and then tucked it away. It was all but forgotten, but then I was spurred on by the lovely versions that have been posted on Sewing Pattern Review..
I decided to try a mock up of the dress using a cheap stretch knit and am truly glad that I took the time to do so. The bodice was quite short on me, with the waistband sitting right under my bustline. I lengthened it by two inches for the final version. The rest of the dress fit well; albeit a little larger than the pattern sizing.
The other modification that I made had to do with the sleeves. As you can see from the line drawing, this dress calls for a bell sleeve with a cuff.
While it is an attractive design, it is just not me. I chose instead to forgo the cuff and redraft the sleeve; tapering it in to the wrist.
I made this dress out of a medium weight royal blue ponte knit that I purchased at my local Fabricland. What a treat this fabric was! No raveling, gorgeous rich colour, pressed well and held a crease with some steam. Zip, zip, zip and it was done in no time!
I lurve this dress. It is comfortable, polished and I think it will pack well when I travel. Here are a couple of pictures. I’m not sure why they are grainy. I’ll try for others when I wear it again.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
